Call for Titles of Presentations

The 96th Annual Meeting of the Academy will be held at Longwood University in Farmville from Wednesday (afternoon) through Friday (noon), May 23-25, 2018.  VAS Vice President Gary Isaacs serves as the Program Chair for the 2018 Annual Meeting.

Each section’s oral presentations will be given on Thursday, May 24 (8 am to 5:30 pm) using equipment provided by the host institution (PC with Microsoft PowerPoint, LCD projector & screen).  For most sections, presentations will be scheduled at 15 minute intervals so presenters should be prepared for a 10-12 minute talk to allow time for questions.  Some section sessions also will include one or more presentations by invited speakers.

The Poster Session for all VAS sections is scheduled from 10 am – 5 pm on Thursday, May 24.  Posters must be set up between 8 – 10 am and remain on display until 5 pm.  All poster authors are expected to be present between noon and 2 pm to discuss their posters and answer questions.

Titles, along with additional information, for presentations to be given at the Annual Meeting at Longwood University must be submitted electronically no later than midnight Monday, January 29, 2018.
Please note that the same title can NOT BE SUBMITTED to multiple sections.  Students submitting a title for presentation must obtain approval from their mentors for the planned presentation prior to submitting the title.

At least one author of each presentation (oral or poster) must be a member in good standing of the Academy (i.e., must have paid dues for 2018). Please use the Individual Membership Form (use Membership link above) to join VAS or to renew your membership.  Complete the online form, select the appropriate payment option, and follow the instructions for submitting VAS membership dues payment.

In order to submit a presentation title along with other needed information, please use the Online Submission of  Presentations – 2018 link available at the right of this page.

Please note that abstracts for all oral and poster presentations will be collected electronically in the spring prior to the Annual Meeting.  Detailed information about preparation and submission of abstracts will be provided electronically to all presenting authors at a later date (February or March). Only abstracts of oral presentations and posters actually presented at the Annual Meeting (at least one author must have paid VAS membership dues for 2018) will be published in the 2018 Proceedings issue of Virginia Journal of Science.

NOTE: All authors of each presentation (oral or poster) who plan to attend the Annual Meeting at Longwood University in May must register for the meeting. Preregistration information, and the link to the online registration site, will be made available on the VAS website in the spring (in March or April).
